ABOUT ACCIDENTALLY UKES
Accidentally Ukes is a Ukulele vocal group, based in the Lower Blue Mountains, that was formed in May 2021 from members of Glenbrook Community Choir.
During the Covid years, choirs were the last group to be allowed to meet; however in the second lockdown, small groups of people were allowed to gather in private homes. I (Stephen) invited choir members to my home and Accidentally Ukes was born.
Many of the group had never played a ukulele before and have worked hard to fine-tune their skills whilst continuing to sing with beautiful harmonies.
The aim of the group is to have fun playing ukulele and singing songs together.
We are also a performance group, playing in a local nursing home and attending ukulele festivals.
- In 2023, we played at Gateway Family Services (Blaxland) Volunteer’s Day, and were invited back in 2024 and 2025.
We first went to the Illawarra Springstrum in 2023 and have returned in 2024 and 2025.
We missed out on The Blue Mountains Uke Festival in 2024 and played our set out in Katoomba Street until rain drove us to shelter. We were accepted in 2025 and played in the beautiful Baroque Room.
This year (2025), we played at the Central Coast Ukelele Festival for the first time and loved our weekend away together.
In May 2024, we began playing in Buckland Nursing Home at Springwood. We have played there every two months since. We love the way our music brightens up the residents’ day. Our set list has certainly been tweaked to include songs that they can sing along to. We hope to continue these concerts for many years.
Our group has become more than a music group. We enjoy being together and sharing in social events. We will continue to encourage and challenge ourselves with more of our favourite music.
We will continue to add folk, gospel, country and pop to our repertoire. We will have joyful, fun times together based around our love of music.
Accidently Ukes – deliberately good music.
